Course Structure

Introduction & Technical Drawing Tools

In this first session, we’ll introduce the course and dive into the world of line-based illustration. Through exercises with technical pens, students will explore how simple lines can create depth, volume, and texture.

Activities: 

  • Introduction to illustration and sources of inspiration

  • Overview of fineliners / technical pens

  • Shading techniques:  
    - Hatching
    - Cross-hatching  
    - Stippling
    - Line weight variation

  •  Guided exercises with line and texture

India Ink & Expressive Techniques

This session explores the expressive potential of India ink. We'll use both brush and dip pen to experiment with contrast and grayscale, creating dramatic, tonal illustrations.

Activities:

  •  Introduction to India ink and ink washes (grayscale)  Chiaroscuro: working with light and dark

  •  Brush & ink textures

  •  Introduction to dip pens (plumilla)  Pattern-building with line

  •  Final ink illustration using combined techniques

Designing for Linocut

We shift into printmaking, starting with an introduction to linocut. The focus is on designing with solid blacks and clean negative space — ideal for carving and printing.

Activities:

  • What is linocut? Process and visual logic  

  • Planning an illustration for print:
    - Bold contrast
    - Solid blacks and open shapes  
    - Negative space

  •  Design and sketch final linocut illustration

Carving the Block

In this session, students will transfer their design to linoleum and begin carving. They will learn how to use the tools safely and effectively to prepare the block for printing.

Activities:

  •  Transfer illustration to linoleum  Safety and tool handling

  •  Basic carving techniques

  •  Carving session: outlining, clearing, texture  

  • Prepare the block for printing

Printing on Paper & Fabric

The final session is dedicated to printing! Students will handprint their linocut on different types of paper, and optionally on fabric like tote bags, creating their own edition of prints.

Activities:

  •  Introduction to hand-printing techniques  Inking and printing your linoleum block

  •  Experimenting with paper types

  •  Optional: printing on tote bags or fabric

  •  Finishing touches and signing your work

The course teacher: Rebeca

Rebeca is a visual artist with a degree in Fine Arts, currently based in Luxembourg. Her work moves between painting, illustration, and tattooing, with a strong focus on line, texture, and contrast. Deeply inspired by the natural world, she often draws from botanical forms and animals to create detailed, expressive imagery.

Specializes in traditional techniques such as ink drawing and linocut printmaking. Combines graphic precision with organic and emotional elements. Experienced in collaborative projects and passionate about art education

Cancellation Policy

Please note in case of missed class the fee cannot be reimbursed. In case you need to cancel your participation in the course please note that we accept 10 days’ notice in order to reimburse 100% of the amount and we can reimburse only 50% after this date and 0% from the start of the course. Missed workshops cannot be recovered.
